Thomas R. Resch, MD, FACS, DABVLM, RPhS, FABA
Medical Director
I think it is very important as a physician to be able to translate what we’re doing - to impart that, no matter what level or what part you play in a patient’s care.
Dr. Thomas Resch is a board-certified surgeon trained in traditional and minimally invasive vein procedures. He is extensively trained in the care of burns and wound management. He believes in a team approach to patient care and says it is a physician's role to educate the patient.
His interest in medicine was based on experiences with his father, who had health issues, including several cardiac diseases, valve issues and endocarditis. Through that experience, as well as interactions with physicians who took care of his dad, Dr. Resch developed an interest in becoming a doctor and wanting to give back.
“I always try to treat my patients as my family and maintain empathy,” he said. “I’ve seen the other side of it because of my dad’s experience, and I know what it’s like for the families to try to interpret everything that’s coming at them.”
Dr. Resch said it’s nice to be able to follow patients through their care when patients are back to the activities they enjoy. “That’s very rewarding to see all the work pay off,” he said.
Dr. Resch has been named a Diplomate of the American Board of Venous & Lymphatic Medicine (DABVLM), a prestigious certification indicating a physician has demonstrated specialized knowledge, extensive experience, and high competence in diagnosing and treating vein and lymphatic disorders. He is also a Registered Phlebology Sonographer (RPhS) with expertise in venous ultrasound.
Dr. Resch was born and raised in Emporia, KS. He received his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita.
